We are a small kennel located
in the heart of Muskoka. Our name comes from an Ojibway word meaning "Water
Lily". Waome was also the name of a steamship that plied the waters of Lakes
Muskoka, Joseph and Rosseau. On her last run of the season in October of 1934,
she was headed from the upper lakes toward Beaumaris. She carried her Captain,
five crew and one passenger. She met her fate when a powerful gust of wind
knocked her onto her port side off Keewaydin Island.

S S Waome
She went to the bottom in less than a minute with the loss of
one crewman and the passenger. Her Captain succumbed to a heart attack while
swimming for shore in the freezing water.

Captain Charles William Henshaw
The Captain was my Great Grandfather. We therefore decided
to name our kennel after that steamer that is so tied up in our family history.
We have been breeding Tibetan Spaniels since 1995 although we
have had different breeds for a many years. We found the Tibetan Spaniel when
we were looking for a small dog that was capable of dealing with our Rottweilers.
It was an instant love affair and the rest, as they say, is history.
